ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is the specialty of dentistry dedicated to preventing and correcting poor positions of the teeth and jaws. All children should have their first orthodontic consultation with their dentist around 6-7 years of age, after the eruption of their first permanent teeth, to assess the need for treatment. Benefits of orthodontic treatment: Improved aesthetics of the face and smile, with a consequent increase in self-esteem and ease of social insertion; Correct alignment of teeth, making better dental hygiene possible and reducing the risk of cavities and gum problems; Good masticatory, muscular and jaw joint function with benefits in terms of health and general well-being.

ORAL HYGIENE

It is a fundamental specialty in Dentistry, being responsible for the diagnosis, prevention and therapy of oral diseases, in particular, the tracking of cavities and gum disease. It is also decisive in maintaining the treatments carried out in other specialties. In addition to removing tartar and plaque through scaling, one of the main objectives of Oral Hygiene consultations is to educate and promote good oral hygiene habits. Oral hygiene appointments must be regular (every 6 months) to ensure a lasting smile.

PERIODONTOLOGIA

Periodontal diseases affect the tissues that surround and support the teeth - periodontium - which include, in addition to the gums, the alveolar bone and other structures responsible for keeping the teeth firmly implanted in the jawbone. Periodontal diseases are divided into two large groups: Gingivitis: This is superficial inflammation of the gums, which is easily treated, with full recovery of the tissues; Periodontitis: This is destruction of the deeper structures, with reabsorption of the bone, and if left untreated, can lead to tooth loss. They generally do not cause pain, even in the most advanced cases.

PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY

Pediatric dentistry is the branch of dentistry that takes care of children's oral health. Today it is known that one of the reasons for increased anxiety when facing the dentist's chair is due to negative experiences they had in childhood. Treatment with children requires special care, as they need greater attention and psychology. The environment should still be attractive, helping the child feel confident and relaxed.

ENDODONTICS

The word endodontics comes from the Greek meaning inside (endo) of the tooth (dontia). Endodontics is, therefore, the branch of dentistry dedicated to the pathology of the dental pulp and tissues surrounding the roots and their treatment. The dental pulp found inside the tooth (root canal), is commonly, albeit incorrectly, known as the "nerve". In the past, teeth with dental pulp problems were commonly extracted. Today, thanks to all the scientific and technological advances, available treatments can almost always save these teeth, keeping their chewing function and aesthetics unchanged.

TEETH WHITENING

In principle, anyone with good oral health can undergo teeth whitening. Patients with dental problems, tooth decay, wear, tooth sensitivity and others may require prior treatment, hence the importance of having teeth whitening performed by your dentist. The selection of the technique to be used depends essentially on the clinical conditions of each patient, their expectations and the speed of the desired treatment results. Your dentist will advise you on the most correct and appropriate technique, always based on the best efficacy/safety ratio.

FIXED PROSTHESIS

A fixed prosthesis is the partial or total restoration of the crown of a tooth through a prosthesis that is placed on the previously prepared natural tooth and/or on dental implants, and cannot be removed by the patient. It can also be used to replace one or more missing teeth. Fixed prostheses can be crowns or bridges and aim to mimic the individual's natural dentition as much as possible.

REMOVABLE PROSTHESIS

The removable prosthesis can be total or partial. The conventional complete denture is made and placed in the patient's mouth after removing the last teeth present in the mouth and once the tissues have healed. An immediate full denture is inserted into the mouth once the remaining teeth are removed. With this type of prosthesis, the patient does not have to spend any period without teeth, but will need to readjust them after a few months. The removable prosthesis can be made of a metallic or acrylic structure, designed to restore oral functions: chewing, aesthetics, phonetics, as well as stabilization and prevention of other problems in the remaining teeth.

ORAL SURGERY

Oral surgery is the area of dentistry that deals with the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases, injuries and anomalies of the teeth, mouth, jaws and associated structures. The field of action of oral surgery is very broad, including the following procedures: extractions (extraction of impacted teeth or teeth present in the dental arch), surgery for cystic or tumoural pathologies, periodontal surgery, endodontics, implantology, pre-prosthetic surgery (preparation of the mouth for the placement of a prosthesis), surgery for infectious lesions and oral traumatology.

IMPLANTOLOGY

Dental implants are “artificial roots” used to replace missing or missing teeth in order to support a crown and/or prosthesis. How do you connect an implant to bone? Once placed in contact with the bone, implants establish a perfectly healthy and stable biological union with it. Implants should be understood as another treatment alternative to replace lost teeth.

DENTIST CHECKOUT

What is a dental check and which target audience is it aimed at? The dental check is part of the National Oral Health Promotion Program (PNPSO) of the Ministry of Health. This program provides for the granting of dental checks to the respective beneficiary users, namely, pregnant women accompanied by the National Health Service (SNS), beneficiaries of the solidarity supplement for elderly users of the SUS, children and adolescents. The dental check can be used at any participating dentist and in private dental offices or clinics. The scope of use provides for the promotion of oral health, prevention and treatment of oral diseases.
